Its not a David Poile thing, its a league wide thing.

I've always thought NSH ownership was hesitant to ever can Poile or Trotz. Remember how long Trotz lasted and how many wins he accumulated despite the team never truly getting over the hump.
Two great trades Poile has made tho are the Forsberg and Subban ones. |

Anyone know what Rust's prognosis and timetable for return is? I recall HCMS said it would be LTM. Is it still just a LBI? |

Trotz' Preds weren't near as stacked as the past few years editions of the Preds IMO and that makes it more impressive to me. Did they ever get out of the 1st round with Trotz? Maybe made it to the 2nd, I cant totally remember, but definitely never made the WCF's with Trotz...and thats probably a huge factor (pure speculation on my behalf) in them letting him go. Look at what he's doing with Isles this year, not to mention the Caps cup with what most believed to be one of the lesser-on-paper teams the Caps had in years. Great coach. |

Rust is a leg injury, Arm Sling was for Ruwhedel right? |

Yeah, they haven’t said much which makes me believe he’s done for the regular season. |

I would say Poile's plus minus is horrendous especially since December. |

There was a four year period where Erat was no lower than 4th in team scoring and the preds were a 100 point club. Trotz was a magician even then. |

I can find a silver lining in these injuries and its rest and more so for the D-men... Letang has been playing close to 30 mins a game all season, Dumo not much less. So this is a nice little break for them to recoup but doesnt seem it will be so long that it totally takes them out of game shape and sharpness.
Regarding game shape and sharpness; super impressed with how well Schultz played right out the gate upon his return from 4 month absence. |

Don't overlook how terribly Poile and NSH handled the Radulov situation. |

Agreed. Here's to hoping they lock him up long term. |

My current concern is tomorrow’s game, not NSH. The Pens have a habit of playing down to their competition and I’m really hoping they do not let off the gas for one moment.
I feel at times they get their confidence back and become too confident leading to less desparation. |

Yeah...but things weren't dire a lot of those nights that happened. Now the situation is getting dire. I've been waiting for this all season. While there's something to be said about sitting pretty at the top of a division, I also think there's something to be said about a team that has to dig deep and battle very hard every night (aka play like its the playoffs), now just to get in. Sometimes the top teams kinda coast into the playoffs and arnt ready for the compete level...it does happen... |

I was thinking he was signed for 2 more after this one but its only 1 : /
...but some around here would tell you that Gud and JJ for more years at around 4 mill each is insignificant....If GMJR cant unload one or both it could severely handicap extending someone like Schultz...who will probably want a little raise... |

I dunno. The Pens have been in a dire situation most of the season. They had one good small run that bailed bought them some life, but they’ve been struggling all year. |

But they haven't. Now with the end of season very close and the standings where they are, they HAVE to win more than they lose and they know that. A bulk of this team have played super meaningful games the past three to ten years (for some not just in the NHL), so much more meaningful than any game from October to February. They've been in worse situations and survived. I cant blame them for looking like they're just going through the motions a lot of nights earlier in the season, frustrating to watch no doubt, but for me a bit understandable. |

But they have... prior to their little run, they were teetering in and out of a playoff spot and now they’re back to that situation. |

While true, they are also 6 points behind 1st place in the metro with a game in hand. Murray has been strong since his return from injury in December. The way Crosby Jake and Geno are filling the net should be comforting.
They have a huge 6 games ahead of them. All conference, 3 divisional, CBJ 2 and Was 1. Snag 4 out of 6 with the two losses being to non divisional foes and you are comfortable moving forward. |

You are right in terms of them not necessarily being in a dire situation but they are not really in the divisional race at the moment.
MoneyPuck has playoff odds at ~80% and division winner at ~10%
